The big three
Be aware that the three main causes of eating when we are not hungry are:
- Habit
- Boredom
- Stress
1. Habit
- Change a bad habit for a good habit
- Stop and think about why you do this particular counterproductive habit
2. Boredom
- Take up a hobby that you will really enjoy
- Do something stimulating
- Do something active
- Pamper yourself – but not with food or drink
3. Stress
- Try to eliminate the source of the stress
- Recognise that this is stress and put in place measures to combat it
- Take a brisk walk
- Practice deep breathing and relaxation techniques regularly
- Get more sleep and plan for this
- Keep your vitamin and mineral status high
